Taking stock after two years as a freelancer

After more than 30 years working for the man (i.e. newspaper and magazine companies), I have now been in business for myself as a freelance writer, editor, blogger and creative of online content for two years.

I thought it would be a good time to take stock and list my clients. It’s been an interesting ride. Clients have included:

The Boston Globe; SmartPlanet.com from CBS Interactive where I was the Thinking Tech blogger; several financial, healthcare and insurance  publications at Sourcemedia; IDG ITnews.com and IDG custom publishing; IBM; and Cisco.

Regretfully, I am giving up my regular Cisco and IBM gigs. That’s because I start Jan. 10 fulltime with an IDG custom publishing project. Cisco and IBM were great clients and my handlers there had a great deal of empathy for freelancers and journalists buffeted around in today’s dismal market for their talents.

I also just picked up a small job doing a monthly 500-word blog post for the MIT Technology Review working for friend and former colleague Evan Schwartz.
